All Year
A visit to Norfolk can be productive and enjoyable at any time of the year as there are around 100 species that can be seen in the county throughout the year whether as a resident like Bittern and Bearded Tit, a breeding species that now also increasingly over-winters such as Avocet and Marsh Harrier, or species that are primarily winter visitors but small numbers of non-breeders stay throughout the summer such as some ducks and waders.
Offshore Gannets and Fulmars can be seen passing by, with the latter also breeding on our cliffs, and small numbers of non-breeding Common Scoter and Eider persist through the summer from their wintering populations. Little and Great-crested Grebes can be found on ponds and lakes, and on the marshes Bittern, Bearded Tit, Water Rail, Reed Bunting, Cetti's Warbler, Little Egret and Marsh Harriers can also be seen throughout the year.

Egyptian Goose Little Owl Dartford Warbler |
Wildfowl are well represented all year with the resident Egyptian Goose adding to the feral populations of Greylags and Canada Geese, and from the large wintering population, small numbers of Wigeon, Teal, Gadwall, Pintail, Shoveler, Tufted Duck and Pochard all stay in the county throughout summer.
Although primarily a winter visitor, small numbers of Mediterranean Gulls can also be seen during the summer, Barn, Little and Tawny Owls are resident and in the woodland, all three Woodpeckers, Nuthatch, Treecreeper, Marsh and Willow Tits can be found all year. A small population of Dartford Warblers are currently trying to establish themselves within the county, but only time will tell if their attempted colonisation is successful.

Common Snipe Black-tailed Godwit |
Waders are also well represented as, in addition to the Avocets, species that can be found throughout the year include Black and Bar-tailed Godwits, Knot, Sanderling, Grey Plover, Curlew, Turnstone, Dunlin, Oystercatcher, Ringed Plover, Redshank, Snipe and Lapwing.
Stonechats can be found on heathland as well as the coastal marshes and fields during the winter, and in the fields Tree Sparrows, Corn Buntings and Grey Partridges are the most notable species.
