 Wildlife

Apart from its wealth of bird life, Norfolk has a good variety of mammals, reptiles, insects and plants to enjoy too, so if you have an all round interest for wildlife then naturally time can be spent during your tour enjoying all the flora and fauna that we encounter.

There is always a good chance of seeing both Muntjac and Roe Deer as numbers are on the increase, and there are also localised populations of Red, Fallow and Chinese Water Deers in the county.

There is a wealth of other mammals in the county with the likes of Fox, Stoat, Weasel, Grey Squirrel, Brown Hare, Shrews and Voles to be seen, and if very lucky Otter or Badger are possibilities.

Grey Seal

Both Grey and Common Seals can be seen and, with prior arrangement, boat trips can be taken to get close views of them resting on exposed sandbanks, and as a bonus the trips also allow good views to be had of a tern colony. Harbour Porpoise are occasionally seen, especially off the north-east of the county, with calm summer evenings best when they can be seen breaking the surface of the sea.

Reptiles to be seen between April and September include Adder, Common Lizard and Slow Worm.

Various species of Dragonflies, Damselflies, Butterflies and Moths, plus many other insects are regularly encountered, with Norfolks speciality the Swallowtail Butterfly occurring around the Broads in summertime.
